Welcome to the Higher Ground Society Freedom School 2025: Bay Minette event! Join us at First Universalist Church of Camp Hill on August 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM for a day filled with learning, growth, and community. This is a unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and expand your knowledge in a supportive environment.

In this workshop led by Tuskegee University associate professor of English Dr. Zanice Bond, participants will be (re)introduced to the Gomillion v. Lightfoot case that originated in Tuskegee, Alabama. Participants will discuss key concepts such as voting rights, gerrymandering, redlining, and the 15th Amendment. They will also explore the role and responsibilities of the local individual/community and conclude the session by reading and discussing selected poems from Reparations Now! written by Alabama’s youngest and first African American poet laureate, Ashley M. Jones. Participants will engage in hands-on activities in small intergenerational groups.

Don't miss out on this chance to be a part of something special. See you there!
