Welcome to the final 2025 Higher Ground Society Freedom School event, hosted by the Hale County Library in Greensboro! In this installment of the HGS Freedom School sessions, University of Louisiana, Lafayette assistant professor of history and Black studies, Dr. Theodore Foster III will be leading us in exploring the Civil Rights Movement through the overlooked contributions of three powerful Black women—Septima Clark, Annell Ponder, and Jannette Hosten Harris. This session titled "Beyond the 1964 Civil Rights Act & 1965 Voting Rights Act: How Three Black Women Reimagined Freedom and Citizenship" will examine through film, discussion, and music, how ordinary people redefined citizenship and freedom through grassroots organizing, voter registration, and youth-led sit-ins.
